Every day, hundreds of people walk around Summerland. Locals and visitors walk our sidewalks, streets, parks, and our beach. Whether intentional or not, all kinds of litter ends up on the ground all over town and on the sand at the beach. We have created the Pick-Up Posse to organize a team that will help to make Summerland litter-free.

It is our goal to make sure we are keeping our town beautiful, safe, and inviting and making sure there is no litter accomplishes all three. You’ll see our Posse around town with their Summerland Beautiful yellow vests, and pick up claws picking up cigarette butts on street corners and disposing of half-full coffee cups and creamer pods. You’ll see them coming up the ramps at the beach with full bags of litter.  But they are more than trash picker-uppers. You’ll also see them acting as ambassadors for Summerland by assisting visitors with directions and making restaurant and shopping recommendations.

• First, it’s fun to be part of a group with similar interests. 
• Second, we will provide you with a yellow vest and a trash picker device...how cool!
• The Pick-Up Posse we are hoping, will become a social organization of sorts and will meet at local restaurants on a regular basis for a great time!

There are lots of easy ways to join the Summerland Pick-Up Posse and help keep our community looking beautiful!

First Tuesday of odd-numbered months
January • March • May • July • September • November

Meet at the Summerland Post Office at 9 AM, pick up litter together, and then enjoy coffee and conversation afterward.

First Saturday of even-numbered months
February • April • June • August • October

Meet at the Summerland Post Office at 11 AM, clean up together, and then head out for lunch afterward.

Make it work for you! Choose an area you'd like to cover — perhaps the streets you walk your dog, exercise, or regularly travel through. Pick up litter whenever it works for your schedule. Every bag makes a difference!

Beach cleanup can also be done informally whenever you have time. Take a bag with you on a beach walk and help keep our coastline beautiful.

Whether you join a group or pick up a few pieces of litter on your own, every little bit helps make Summerland more beautiful!
